See ya, Heat. Hello, Autumn!

tumblr_m9ojk3ubbV1r363pgo1_500Well, August is at a end. Finally. While it is my birthday month, it has never been one of my favorite months, considering in the South, school starts in mid-August. Yes, even for college!

Autumn, be good to me. This is my favorite time of the year, weather and holiday wise. I mean, isn’t everyones favorite holiday Halloween? Certainly is mine. I love how all the channels have halloween movies streaming and it’s time to put more clothes on and less dying in an Alabama heat wave.

Anyway, with August ending, it is also a time for school to begin. Groan, I know. Besides starting classes, August has been uneventful. I went to the beach for my birthday, and got macarons and an eiffel tower keyhook stand from Paris. I am spoiled. Not to mention, I got a load of books. I’d have gotten more, I think, if Emma’s package had EVER arrived *glares at usps who lost my bday present*

Anywaaaaay, inspired by Emma’s monthly favorite’s post, I think I shall start my own with the impending new season.

7719248Honestly, I loved Tiger Lily. It was so great and heartbreaking at the same time. I love fairy tales, and this wasn’t any different. Narrated by Tinker Bell, this delves into the love story of Tiger Lily and Peter Pan, before Wendy showed her little England butt in Neverland. This isn’t the cutesy happy ending in fairytales. The characters you root for don’t get what they want, and people get hurt and people die.  AND I loved it. But ask anyone, I love reading tortured characters, as well as torturing my own. You can read my full review here.

15745753The 5th Wave starts off on the evening of the fifth wave with Cassie Sullivan, who believes she’s the last person in the world. Her brother taken, her father killed, Cassie navigates the backwoods and steers clear of the waste of what used to be civilization. Unbeknownst to her, she is not alone. A Silencer follows her, waiting for the opportune moment to kill her. Elsewhere, we have Zombie, a soldier training to eradicate the infected that will bring about the 5th Wave. I love alien invasions, and this was certainly no different. I read this in mere hours and had trouble putting it down, even taking it with me to the kitchen when I wanted to get something from the fridge! You can read my full review here.

Honestly, I haven’t really watched many movies this month, but these are the more memorable ones I’ve seen this month.

15745753Seeing as how the Mortal Instruments are among my top favorite series ever, I had to see the movie. And honestly, I loved it. I mean, no movie is going to be perfect because with books you get to set up the entire world in your imagination and whatnot. In a movie, you can’t do that. Unless you’re the one directing it, then you can. Despite that I felt that many scenes were rushed through without a breath before the next impending disaster happened, I really enjoyed this movie. I had some qualms about Jamie Bower Campbell, but after seeing his performance, I am sold.

I really loved The Hobbit. I’ve never read the books, but I’ve seen all of the LOTR movies and despite the people I know who moaned and groaned about this becoming a movie and how it was portrayed, I really liked it. It was easy to get into, and it kept my attention throughout the entire film. I was even a bit sad when it ended, because I enjoyed watching this world and these characters immensely.

15745753I had been seeing graphics all over Tumblr, and when the DVDs came out, I threw them into my queue (what a weird word, I can never spell it without looking). The first episode was a bit WHAT? HUH? WHATS HAPPENING? but by the end of the second episode, I was completely enthralled and in love with the story line. It was a bit hard to grasp at first, but I easily caught on and came to love all the characters that Tatiana Maslany portayed. Really fabulous show and I can’t wait to see more.

I don’t normally listen to this type of music very often, but after listening to Gold by Victoria Justice, I was sold. It’s catchy. Yano, like disease.

I heard this a couple of weeks ago when searching for Mortal Instruments music before the movie came out. This immediately got my attention, I love the melody and the lyrics. It’s not rock-out music, but definitely something you can sway too and belt out lyrics like you’re Adelle throwing a concert.

I love John Frieda. I use this every time I do my hair. You can get this nearly anywhere, including Walmart, for 4-6 dollars. I’ve had this bottle for a year now, I think, and I’m only now getting the end of the bottle. Not to mention, this smells divine.

This is my favorite color. Really, it looks great with everything. You can wear it to class, or even a night out on the town.

 48 Lash by MAC

Longer wispy bundles with an even edge create a flirty fringe that verges on the dramatic. These are the holy grail of lashes, especially if you’re like me and think yours are thin and stubby. Why is it always guys blessed with natural long beautiful lashes? It’s entirely unfair.

Wellllll, there are my favorites for the month of August. What are YOUR favorite shows/movies/apps/assessories/whatever this month?

30 Day Challenge, Day 6

Normally, I’d say Winter, but you’d have to be aware I live in Alabama. My version of Winter is 30 degrees, wear a jacket and go about your way. Snow? Yeah, right. Only in February, and it’s more of a dusting that leaves everyone scrambling for water, bread, and other supplies. Then you get a couple hours of snow that melts before nightfall, and out come T-shirts saying, “I SURVIVED THE SNOWPOCALYPSE.”

With a real winter of heavy snowfall and freezing your tush off, I’ll go with Autumn/Fall. Specifically, late autumn. The leaves have all changed colors and are slowly falling from the trees. Gorgeous. You can crunch, crunch, crunch your way through the driveway and dive into a bundle of leaves someone just raked together. There’s a nip to the air so you aren’t sweating to death, either – which, in Alabama, is 354 days of the year, if not more.

Jack Frost is starting to wake from hibernation, but it’s not too cold, so you can still go out for leisure walks around the park. Everything is full of color and romance is in the air, everyone hoping to find a special someone to cuddle up to in front of a toasty fire pit to roast marshmallows. The smell of apple pie baking and the beginning of Christmas shopping (after everyone loses their manners at Black Friday).

30 Day Challenge, Day 5

A book you love.

Harry Potter, hands down. Nothing can compare to Queen Rowling. I remember when the first novel was published, everyone was reading it. I think I was still in Elementary School, perhaps? I do remember being at someones house late at night and while they slept, I delve into Harry Potter and by the time my mum picked me up in the wee hours of the morning, I had already read most of it. I waited agonizingly for a while before I could get the second novel. After Deathly Hallows was released, I was sad because I combed through that puppy within a day, and realized that it was over. I sat there for a while clutching the book to my chest with utter grief that I spent my entire childhood on Harry Potter. And it was over. So I watched the remainder of the movies, and that was over a year ago…

This book makes you believe in  magic. That anything is possible. I remember wanting my Hogwarts letter to arrive when and never received it. I pre-ordered book after book, and standing in lines and arguing with my parents that it was an extension of my soul, my livelihood. How could anyone take that away from me? Dramatic, I know.

I’ll read these books to my children someday when I have them, and hope it opens up a world of imagination where anything is possible, as it did for me. I hope they’ll love the books as much as I did growing up.

30 Day Challenge, Day 3

Well, I am all done with finals, and I am freeeeee! Gonna get my sleep on soon 😛 Alrightyyy! So, today’s challenge is:

Your favorite television program.

If you asked me a couple months ago, it would hands down be Vampire Diaries. But, since a recent appearance of a character I adore (and obsess over), Once Upon A Time now shares that slot in my heart over my obsessions. I mean, who can resist Captain Hook (Colin O’Donoghue). So dreamy. Yes, I am a “Hooker” as the fandom so eloquently calls the Hook fan girls. But yes, OUAT is a fabulous show if you’re into fairy-tales and the like, and it’s fun trying to figure out who is from what fairytale, as some aren’t completely obvious.

My other favorite show is The Vampire Diaries. I never cared too much for the books, so I’m happy that its NOTHING like the books. Seriously, change the title and character names and you would never ever compare them whatsoever. I mostly watch for Ian Somerhalder’s character Damon. Smoldering blue eyes. Check. Witty dialogue. Check. Hot as sin, double check. Not to mention all the other male characters are insanely attractive as well. If Mystic Falls existed, I’d move there for the eye candy.
